History of breed

The founder of the breed became smooth fox terrier that has already been used by hunters to 16c for the fox hunting. United Kennel Club began registering smooth fox terriers in 1912. Among that dogs met the standard and small dogs, which for many breeders are often more valuable than large dogs, as they proved more accommodating, unlike their larger relatives. Small dogs registered on par with the larger Fox terriers. In the mid-1920s, a small dog lovers turned to the UKC with a request to make a separate breed of smaller dogs, which finally happened in 1936. The breed was registered under the name of the Toy Fox Terrier.
At this time, Toy Fox Terrier has a few other names used in everyday life: American toy fox terrier, toy-fox, Amertoy.
After the years, breed of toy fox terrier was recorded only in the UKC (United Kennel Club) - one of the major American dog organizations, in 2003 the breed was recognized by the AKC (American Kennel Club). Replaced about 50 generations of dogs before installing the current status of the breed.
At present, apart from the United States and Canada, the breed is recognized in some European countries and the Russian Federation (RKF Bureau's decision of December 27, 2011).
According to official figures AKC (American Kennel Club) toy fox terriers were bred on the basis of the following breeds :
- Smooth Fox Terriers were bred with the Manchester Terrier and Chihuahua, with moderate foreign type miniature pinscher and Italian greyhounds.
Cross matings banned with 31.08.1960.

Today just in America is more than 100 nurseries of Toy Fox Terriers. This is one of the most popular breeds in the United States .
Upon initial formation of the breed breeders, there were no restrictions on the coloration of dogs. Decades later, there was a tendency to breed tri-color that the dog with black and tan head. This color still remains the most popular among breeders, although officially recognized more 3 colors: "Black and White", "White and Tan" and "White, Chocolate and Tan".
Toy Fox inherited a hunting instincts from Fox Terrier, but because of its small size, can successfully hunt only on small rodents and birds , but the courage of the heart they do not hold, and they do not fear before a stronger opponent .
At home in the U.S. toy fox terriers because of their good learning were used in circus performances, and they have traveled around the country.

Toy fox terriers as well manifest themselves in sports such as Agility, Lure coursing, Dog Frisbee, Dog-Puller, Fly ball.
